FinCompareLab is reader-supported. When you sign up for a product or service through links on this site, I may earn an affiliate commission, at no extra cost to you.
This page explains exactly how that works, what it means for you, and how I make sure it never affects my editorial independence.
How I Make Money
FinCompareLab earns revenue through affiliate marketing. This means that when you click a link to a product or service on this site and sign up or make a purchase, I may receive a commission from that company.
Examples of the types of products I may earn commissions on include:
- Budgeting apps (such as YNAB, Monarch Money, PocketGuard)
- Investing apps and brokerage accounts
- High-yield savings accounts and banking products
- Personal finance tools and software
These commissions are how I fund the time spent researching and writing the content on this site, so I can keep it free for readers.
What This Means for You
You never pay more. Affiliate commissions are paid by the companies I link to, not by you. The price you see is the same whether you arrive through my link or go directly to the product’s website.
I sometimes earn more from some products than others. Commission rates vary between companies and programs. It’s possible that a product I link to pays a higher commission than an alternative I also mention.
I do not let commission rates influence my rankings or recommendations. My editorial process is based on verified pricing, feature comparison, and honest assessment of value. A product that pays a higher commission does not get a better rating because of it.
My Editorial Independence Policy
Every product reviewed or recommended on FinCompareLab is evaluated on its own merits. My process:
- I verify before I write. Every price and feature claim is checked directly against official sources, official app store listings, and real user feedback on Reddit and app reviews, not copied from other coverage. For YNAB and Monarch Money specifically, I also bring years of personal, day-to-day use. For every other app, I apply that same rigorous research process, but I don’t claim hands-on use I don’t actually have.
- I am not paid to write positive reviews. No company pays me for coverage or controls my editorial content. Affiliate relationships are established after I’ve already decided a product is worth recommending.
- I include negatives. Every review on this site includes what I liked less, what the app doesn’t do well, and who should skip it. If I can’t say something honest about a product, I don’t write about it.
- I update my content. Pricing, features, and my ratings change over time as products change. I review and update my posts regularly to make sure the information is accurate.
FTC Compliance
This disclosure is made in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255), which require that material connections between a reviewer and a product or service are clearly disclosed to readers.
Affiliate links on FinCompareLab are disclosed at the bottom of each article that contains them.

The short version
I may earn a commission if you sign up through my links. It costs you nothing extra. It never changes what I recommend. I only link to products I’ve researched thoroughly and genuinely believe are worth your time.
